I Think We're Alone Now - Tiffany

And so we're running just as fast as we can

Holdin' onto one another's hand

Tryin' to get away into the night / And then you put your arms around me

As we tumble to the ground and then you say / I think we're alone now

You know when people say the honeymoon period ends after three months? That's not necessarily a bad thing. Your brain literally builds a tolerance to the chemicals that give you that feeling, so after about nine months you will biologically feel it less. Relationships require effort to maintain, of course, crazy thought, but don't put all the pressure on yourself. If you put the same time and love into your relationship that you did when you were first dating, or even trying to date, you'd start to feel that childlike wonder and attraction again. It wouldn't feel quite the same, but you want to feel different feelings. It does require effort from both parties, but with secure love, you can add some whimsy and fun on top of a satisfyingly domestic relationship. The honeymoon period transitioning into a secure, safe relationship is a completely positive thing, provided you keep choosing your special person, even on the boring days.

You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon

I can be your long-lost pal

I can call you Betty, and Betty when you call me / You can call me Al

Listen to the beginning of You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon.

Now listen to the beginning of Give It Up by KC & The Sunshine Band.

Do they sound similar to anybody else, or am I just tripping? I know they did not copy each other because they are different, but I am so happy that I found the earworm that I swore I recognised in Paul Simon's intro.

Heaven is a Place on Earth - Belinda Carlisle

Ooh, Heaven is a place on Earth

They say in Heaven, love comes first

Also, I don't know what they were on, but the 80s produced an insane amount of good music. Just banger after banger, non-stop.

Lean on Me - Club Nouveau

For no one can fill

Those of your needs / That you won't let show

Lean on me

I just watched San Junipero, and wow, what a heavy piece of television. I was expecting a typical Black Mirror dystopia and was hit with so much nostalgia, sadness, pain, pity, excitement, and, most prominently, the urge to pre-grieve a life I have not yet lived. When you love someone deeply, the brain tries to practise losing them as a defence mechanism. All this does is steal the joy out of the present moment and drain your energy for a hypothetical future that is not yet happening. San Junipero is asking whether it is better to live in a controlled, nostalgic fantasy where you never have to face loss, or to accept the impermanence of real life. I think the takeaway is that you do not have to choose per se: love is precious because life moves forward and we cannot freeze it in time. It is precious because we have chosen to dedicate time from our inherently limited lives to this fragile, risky, emotional pursuit of love.

Let Down - Radiohead

You push it, stretch it, it'll never be enough

Dead Poets Society is one of the saddest films I've ever seen. If you haven't watched it, don't read on!

I was recently reminded of Neil's fate via an edit to Let Down from Radiohead's OK Computer. He truly did not deserve it, and it is incredibly painful to remember that there are people in the world who do the same thing for many of the same reasons. There is always a way, there is always a route out into the great expanse of the world, the world of immense possibilities and joys of life. It is never too late to start again.

You know, you know where you are with / You know where you are with

Floor collapsing / Floating, bouncing back

Free Fallin' - Tom Petty

I wanna glide down over Mulholland / I wanna write her name in the sky

It's funny how seeing the world through the lens of photography forces you to actually look at what's around you, rather than just passing through. Photography is a wonderful hobby to share with someone creative and passionate. No two people have quite the same eye, and a shared photo is a shared love.
